1. How deep does a pool need to be for a diving board?
According to the specified standard values for diving installations, a classic 1 m diving board requires a minimum water depth of 3.40 m. For a 3 m diving board, the minimum water depth is 3.70 m. A typical private pool with, for example, 1.50 m or 2.00 m depth is not sufficient.
Important: Racing starts from starting blocks are different from jumps off a diving board. For starting blocks, depths of around 1.80 m are sometimes stated. However, this only applies to flat racing starts, not to diving boards.
2. Board material and spring characteristics
The material influences durability, surface properties, and take-off behavior.
For the board material, the following properties are crucial:
- weather and moisture resistance
- slip-resistant surface
- good long-term load capacity
- consistent material quality
- suitability for chlorinated and water-exposed environments
The spring characteristics of a diving board should be predictable and suited to the intended use. It’s not about maximum dynamics, but about a safe, controllable take-off feel.

3. Load capacity and stress
The load capacity of the system is one of the most important buying criteria. Pay attention to the permissible user load, a robust substructure, a design that matches the intended use, and suitability for regular operation. Not only the board itself, but the entire system of board, mounting, and substructure must be tailored to the planned usage. Especially in public pools or schools with many users, a solid, long-lasting construction is essential.

4. How is a diving board mounted?
A diving board is usually installed on a diving platform or substructure. This typically consists of:
- Rear support at the back end of the board
- Roller substructure beneath the board
- Load-bearing platform/diving structure, which in turn is firmly connected to the building structure.
5. How far should a diving board extend over the pool?
For diving boards, the overhang depends on the system, board length, and substructure. Depending on the model, the board overhang can be, for example, 40 to 90 cm. For public or standard-compliant installations, there is therefore no single “standard overhang”; what matters is the
overall geometry of the diving installation and pool according to DIN EN 13451-10. Safety distances and water depths must always be planned to match the specific installation.
6. Can you retrofit a diving board?
Yes, in principle you can retrofit a diving board, provided the existing pool and installation situation are suitable. The decisive factors are mainly water depth, safety distances, and the height of the diving structure.
