Rule of thumb for the correct street hockey stick length

You can determine the right street hockey stick length as follows: Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart. Hold the stick vertically in front of your body so that the tip of the blade touches the ground. The ideal stick ends about one hand’s width below your chin.

Additional factors when choosing the correct stick length

Whether you play with or without skates, the ideal street hockey stick length also depends on your individual body proportions, playing position, playing style and personal preferences. Shorter sticks offer more freedom of movement, agility and better puck control. Forwards in particular often choose shorter sticks for quick feints and body moves. Longer sticks give you more reach and allow harder shots, which is why defenders often opt for longer sticks.

Street hockey: gameplay, rules and more

Street hockey is played on a small field. The exact game mode can be agreed beforehand. Playing time depends on the number of teams and is usually 6–10 minutes. Typically, each team consists of 4 players plus 2 substitutes and no fixed goalkeeper. Substitutions can be made as often as you like. When making a substitution, the player leaving the field must step off before the substitute enters. If the ball goes out of bounds at the side or after a foul, play is restarted by dribbling in.
