The pétanque leisure boules set comes in a sturdy wooden case and contains two sets of 3 OBUT INOX leisure boules. To differentiate between the sets, one is engraved with the ‘Salamander’ design and the other features the ‘Side’ patterning. The set also comes with a beechwood jack and a set of game instructions.

The boules also undergo a special heat-treating process which tempers the steel. The stainless steel used and the tempering process make these boules particularly robust and hard-wearing. The surface is electrogalvanised; a process that is more environmentally friendly than chrome plating. The boules are not magnetic and cannot be picked up using a magnet.

How do you play pétanque/boules?
Pétanque is played using metal balls (boules) and a wooden jack. The game pits two players, or two teams, against each other. For simplicity, we’ll refer to player 1 and player 2. Before the game begins you need to determine who will put the jack into play. Whoever wins the toss is player 1. Player 1 then draws out a circle (ø 35-50 cm) from which to throw at the jack (cochonnet) at a distance of 6-10 m. The aim is to throw your own boules closer to the jack than your opponent. Player 1 takes their throw, then it’s player 2’s turn. Player 2 can now try to trump their competitor by throwing their own boule closer to the jack, or they can attempt to knock their opponent’s boule away. Play then reverts to player 1. The game continues like this until one player wins or there are no boules left to be thrown. Points are tallied at the end of the round: the player whose boule is closest to the jack earns points equal to the number of their boules that are closer to the jack than their opponent’s closest boule. The winner of the round throws the jack for the next round from a new circle.
